Penyanyi asal Amerika Serikat, Lauv, baru saja merilis single baru berjudul 2021 pada Kamis (31/12/2020) malam. Mengambil judul 2021 tepat saat pergantian tahun, Lauv sepertinya memang sengaja menyiapkan lagu ini untuk menyambut tahun baru.
Melalui track autotune yang terdengar manis dengan tempo lambatnya, lagu 2021 membahas ketidakpuasan seseorang dalam menjalani hubungan percintaan.
Dalam liriknya, Lauv menyampaikan sebuah harapan besar untuk bisa bersama dengan orang yang dicintainya. Ia berusaha meyakinkan orang tersebut bahwa ia sangat mencintainya dan bisa meraih kebahagiaan bersama. Namun, ia tak yakin bahwa orang tersebut memiliki perasaan dan pandangan yang sama.
Meski secara keseluruhan liriknya terdengar seperti lagu cinta romantis, lagu ini tidak terbatas pada objek tertentu. Melalui lagu ini, Lauv mungkin saja ingin mengirimkan pesan bagi penggemarnya untuk menanti masa depan yang lebih cerah dan penuh harapan setelah masa sulit saat ini, seperti pada lirik berikut ini.

Perilisan single 2021 mengikuti Fake, lagu hasil kolaborasi Lauv bersama Conan Gray yang dirilis pada Oktober 2020.
Sepanjang 2020, musisi yang sedang naik daun itu telah merilis album debutnya bertajuk “How I’m Feeling” pada Maret 2020.
Album itu menyajikan 21 track, 6 di antaranya merupakan single kolaborasi yang masing-masing menampilkan Anne-Marie, Alessia Cara, LANY, BTS, Troye Sivan, dan Sofia Reyes. Tiga bulan setelahnya, ia merilis EP “Without You” yang berisi 4 track.
Selain merilis album dan single baru, Lauv mengakhiri 2020 dengan bergabung bersama sejumlah artis dari agensi Korea Selatan, Big Hit Entertainment, untuk tampil dalam konser live streaming bertajuk New Year’s Eve Live Concert.
Konser yang disiarkan melalui platform komunitas Big Hit bernama Weverse tersebut juga menampilkan beberapa artis lain yang pernah berkolaborasi dengan grup BTS, seperti Steve Aoki dan Halsey.
