Dalam sesi Instagram Live pada April 2020, Romy Madley Croft mengatakan bahwa ia akan mempersembahkan proyek solo di bawah nama panggung Romy.
Romy Madley Croft selama ini dikenal sebagai anggota The xx, band pop indie Inggris dari Wandsworth, London, yang dibentuk pada 2005. Selain Romy, band ini juga beranggotakan Oliver Sim, Jamie Smith yang dikenal sebagai Jamie xx, dan sebelumnya ada Baria Qureshi.
Hari ini, Rabu (30/9/2020), Romy merilis single solo debutnya, Lifetime.
Lagu yang ditulis dan direkam di London selama lockdown tersebut berkisah tentang mimpi bertemu kembali dengan teman, keluarga, dan orang yang kita cintai, serta kembali merasakan euforia bersama tanpa hambatan.
"Tujuanku dalam lagu ini adalah untuk merayakan hidup, kebersamaan, dan untuk menghargai waktu yang telah hilang. Aku pikir secara tidak sadar energi optimistis dari lagu tersebut adalah reaksi terhadap keheningan dan kecemasan yang aku rasakan saat lockdown." ucap Romy.
Diproduksi bersema Fred Again dan Marta Salogni, lagu ini adalah momen pelarian yang tepat selama masa-masa sulit dan sekilas memikat tentang apa yang akan datang. Video lirik Lifetime dibuat oleh desainer Patrick Savile dan animator Connor Campbell.
